It’s a wrap!

GMUG may have come and gone, but there's always next year, so stay tuned!

What is GMUG?

The Great Minnesota Uke Gathering (GMUG) is a multi-day ukulele gathering featuring jams, workshops, and live performances for ukulele players of all skill levels. It’s a friendly, welcoming space to play music together, learn new things, and enjoy the ukulele community.

Each year, GMUG welcomes renowned guest instructors from around the country who share their experience, skills, and hard-earned ukulele wisdom through workshops and sessions designed to inspire and encourage players at every level. Many of our guest instructors also perform concerts during the event, giving participants a chance to hear them in action.

GMUG takes place as part of the Minnesota Bluegrass Fall Jam (MBFJ), a larger indoor music festival that celebrates bluegrass, old-time, and other acoustic music. While MBFJ includes many musical styles, GMUG is the dedicated ukulele portion of the festival.

Who are the guest instructors for this year's GMUG?

Each year, GMUG features a mix of renowned guest instructors from around the country and well-loved local musicians, all dedicated to sharing their knowledge in a welcoming, supportive environment.

This year’s instructors include:

  • Marcy Marxer & Cathy Fink
  • Aaron Baer
  • Chris Russell

Links provided will take you to each instructor’s website or online page, making it easy to explore their backgrounds and teaching styles.

Where is GMUG held?

GMUG takes place at the Crowne Plaza Minneapolis West in Plymouth, Minnesota, concurrently with the Minnesota Bluegrass Fall Jam (MBFJ).

If staying at the Crowne Plaza, mention MBJF and you will receive a discounted rate. Click here for hotel information.

When is GMUG held?

GMUG is held annually on the weekend two weeks before Thanksgiving.

In 2026, GMUG will take place Friday, November 6 – Sunday, November 8.

Can I volunteer to help out at GMUG?

Absolutely! We always welcome extra hands to help out with tasks such as manning the welcome desk, staffing the merchandise table, and providing other event support. Volunteer sign-ups will be available closer to the event through SignUpGenius.

Is there anything else I need to know?

Food choices at the hotel are somewhat limited, but there are plenty of nearby restaurants to explore—or you can bring a picnic to enjoy between sessions. For those who want to venture out, here are a few nearby options:

  • Crisp and Green
  • Broadway Bar & Pizza
  • Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Brews
  • Bombay Pizza Kitchen Bar & Restaurant

Plan ahead—you won’t want to miss anything!
