A jam is a casual, come-as-you-are group sing-along where players of all skill levels strum together, follow song sheets, and have fun making music.
Anyone is welcome to participate — jammers of all ages attend, though the majority of our members are 55+.
Yes. Every one of our jammers was a first-timer at some point. You don’t need to be an expert—or know every song—to attend a jam. People come with different experience levels, and it’s okay to listen, sing along, or take a break when something feels new.
Here’s what some jammers have said about being part of the group:
No. You’re welcome to play along at a jam without any prior practice. If you’d like to lead a song, it helps to know it well enough to guide the group.
Our jams feature a mix of songs from the TCUC Private Library and a few published ukulele resources, like the ever popular Daily Ukulele books.
You can find out what materials are used at each jam by visiting our All Jams Calendar.
The easiest way is to check our All Jams Calendar, which lists all monthly jams along with locations, times, jam materials and any additional notes.
Jam leaders are more experienced members of the Twin Cities Ukulele Club. They volunteer their time to lead songs, keep the jam running smoothly, and create a friendly, low-pressure atmosphere.
Jams usually start in one of two ways: a TCUC member decides to organize a session at a local spot, or a location reaches out to invite us. In either case, the jam leader works with TCUC admin and the host to get everything set up.
We’re glad you asked! Jams are meant to be fun and relaxed, but a few friendly guidelines—our “10 Jammandments”—help everyone have a great experience. They cover things like tuning your instrument, keeping a steady rhythm, trying new songs, and being considerate of others. For the full list, click here to view the 10 Jammandments.
